It is with great sorrow, especially as we near the festive season, that we advise of the passing of Gary Barr one of our long standing members of the VSDCUA.

Gary joined us in the 2002/03 season and retired after the 2022-23 season due to health issues. If not for this, Gary would have undoubtedly continued umpiring.

He was a highly supportive person to umpire with and always encouraged those he stood with. Gary was a pleasure to work with.

Gary achieved an impressive record during his time with us, amassing a total of 333 games, which included:

  • 10 x 1st XI games

  • 222 x 2nd XI games

  • 63 x 3rd XI games

  • 38 x 4th XI games

These games included the following finals:

  • 3 x 3rd XI Qualifying Finals

  • 5 x 4th XI Qualifying Finals

  • 1 x 3rd XI Semi Final

  • 7 x 4th XI Semi Final

  • 1 x 4th XI Grand Final

  • 2004 Hatch Cup Grand Final

Gary was honored with Life Membership of the VSDCUA in 2011 and VSDCUA '200 Club' Membership in 2014.

Our plaudits go out to our fellow panel members Merv Hindson and Chris Halge, who attended to many of Gary's needs as his health failed him.

We offer our deepest sympathies to Gary's family during this challenging time.
