Happy New Year and welcome back to the second half of the season.

Round 9  The first in a series of three rounds of one-day matches featured some impressive milestones.

Bill Keenan (as reported in a previous post) was the star, reaching his 300th Subbies game—a remarkable achievement that complements the 200 Second XI games milestone he reached in Round 5.

Michael Moore
Michael Moore

Michael Moore also celebrated by umpiring his 150th 1st XI match.  Well done, Michael.

Round 10

This round was light on for milestones, but nonetheless it was a significant one for Frank Stokes who umpired his 50th 1st XI fixture. Congratulations Frank and a little spoiler, watch out for Frank to feature again in the near future as he nears another significant milestone.

Thanks to all those umpires who turned out for the first  week of games in the Under 15 J.G. Craig competition.

Round 11

An Extreme Weather day was declared by the VSDCA for this round which saw all 3rd & 4th XI fixtures played as T20’s.  This was a common sense solution for the heat wave conditions that engulfed Melbourne!

Congratulations go out to Michael Larcart who is the Club Umpire for Taylors Lakes, on umpiring his 50th game.

Other News

Thanks to all those umpires who turned out for the second week of games in the Under 15 J.G. Craig competition.  Melbourne’s weather behaved and all games were able to be played out.

Congratulations to the umpires appointed to the quarter finals which were played on Sunday 25th January, they being;

Coburg v Melton Rob Watts & Cillian McDonnell

Balwyn v Brighton Ray Stokes & Rudy Fernandes

Yarraville v Brunswick Ken French & Bill Finnigan

Oakleigh v Mt Waverley James Barrett & Stephen Hardie

Other News

Red ball cricket is back for the next 3 rounds, and one of those rounds is a Saturday/Sunday fixture on the weekend of 14/15 February.

As the Appointment Manager will no doubt remind you, please keep your availabilities on OfficialsHQ up to date, a simple task which makes Neill’s job that much easier.

Also the Whack T20 twilight schedule has been adjusted as a result of the extreme weather forecast for Tuesday 27 January.  So all the more reason to make sure your availabilities are up to date.  The new schedule is;

Round 3 - 3 February

Semis - 10 February

Final - 17 February

End of Season Dinner

Our End of Season Dinner has been booked in for Tuesday 3rd March at Sandy by the Bay with thanks again to James Barret for agreeing to take charge of the organisation of this night out.  So, mark the date down in your diary!

The meal last year went down a treat, and a lot of umpires were seen walking out with ‘doggy bags’ which gives you a hint as to not only the quality but also the quantity of food that was served up.

There has been a modest increase of $5.00 for the tickets, which is the first time in quite a few years that we have increased the cost.  We are effectively subsidising the cost for members by 50%.  More event details will be shared soon for this popular event on our social calendar.
